Issues

Mental Health

Mental Health is a pervasive issue, impacting individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences. As a candidate, I pledge to confront this crisis by expanding hospital resources, eliminating bureaucratic barriers, and deploying additional therapists and psychologists to rural and urban communities. Furthermore, I will examine policy initiatives to support at-risk groups, including children, veterans, service members, and first responders, aiming to mitigate stigma and facilitate essential support services.

  • Mental health is the cornerstone of our overall well-being affecting how we think, feel, and interact with the world. We must proactively care for our mental health.
  • In today’s stressful world, anxiety and depression are common. Mental health can be improved and nurtured by finding balance, setting boundaries, and seeking help when life’s challenges become overwhelming.
  • Mental health is a fundamental human right. Everyone deserves access to quality mental health care without discrimination. Let us advocate for mental health awareness, accessibility, education, and eliminate the stigma behind mental health and seeking treatment.
  • Incentivize mental health professionals and nurses to stay and work in Iowa after college.

Student Safety and Student Achievement

Every child learns differently, but one thing is generally true, parents know what’s best for their children. Whether public, vocational charter or homeschooling, we need to support all of these options. Even with school choice, the public schools work for most families which is why we need to increase funding to support safety
and better our educational process. I support equipping parents with the options to give their child the best opportunity to learn and grow.

  • As we see everyday on local and national news, our children’s education, our parental rights and choices are at risk.
  • Just as there are laws that separate church and state that do not allow schools to push religious affiliations there should also be laws that do not allow schools, administrators or teachers to push their own political views, sexual orientation views and that would not allow history to be erased.
  • Inclusion is important; however the views of some should not be forced on everyone and parents should have the right to educate their children at home when it comes to biased, opinion based topics such as these.

Small Business

  • Small businesses are the cornerstone of many of Iowan’s communities and the lifeblood of local economies. We need Iowans to support small businesses and inject revenue into their communities, creating jobs that support families and bolster neighborhood services.
  • One way that the state government can support small, local businesses is by creating tax breaks for them. Without small businesses, rural communities in Iowa will eventually cease to exist.

Veterans Support

As a Veteran myself, this issue is top priority for me. Iowa has not done enough for veterans and we are not taken seriously. I have seen that first hand and that is why I founded Salute To the Fallen. I will bring veteran issues to the house that will begin real change.

  • Effective legislation that will open state facilities back up with more hospital beds per capita, passing the green bill, First Responders’ mental health bill

Healthcare Reform

Iowa can reduce healthcare spending by up to $217 per person, as well as decrease mortality rates by 5.5% by removing the requirement for a "certificate of need" for new medical facilities. This is because increased competition sparks ,medical innovation, more effective care and better patient outcomes.
